Comprehensive Neighbourhood Care for Child Victims of Trafficking

The Working Group for Cooperation on Children at Risk, WGCC, within the Council of the Baltic Sea States is pleased to announce a joint regional venture concentrating on better rehabilitation and protective care for children and young people that have experienced trafficking.

A safe environment with solid psychological and social expertise and support that benefits the individual has to be the goal.

The first international seminar in a series of five was held in Vilnius, Lithuania on 14 and 15 September 2006 and has been realised with Support from the EU through the Daphne Programme, the Oak Foundation and Rädda Barnen (Save the Children, Sweden). The second seminar will be held in Warsaw on 9-10th of November 2006. The title of the training programme is Baltic Sea Region Comprehensive Assistance to Children and Victims of Trafficking, BSR CACVT.

The first two-day event was focused on interim care and protection, covering immediate care needs, like safe housing right through to therapeutic intervention and motivational work. The main focus of the second event will be on psychological support to trafficked young persons.

The education programme joins together a network of psychologists, doctors, social workers and other first point specialists from 7 of the member countries to the CBSS: Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden with neighbouring countries Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine.

It will primarily use experiential group work and joint learning methods to build on known best practices in the field and act as a spring board for developing further a comprehensive cross national response in the future.

Further information can be obtained directly from Mr Lars Lööf, Head of the CBSS Children’s Unit.
